Non-Ischemic Cardiomyopathy Attributed to Adult Myotonic Dystrophy
In patients with myotonic dystrophy (MD), impairment of the conduction system is a common and progressive finding. However, only a few cases of MD with cardiomyopathy have been reported. Herein we report a case of MD with progressive non-ischemic cardiomyopathy and severe electrocardiographic abnormalities.

Objectives: Myotonic Dystrophy type I (DM1) is a dominantly inherited disorder with a multisystemic pattern affecting skeletal muscle, heart, eye, endocrine and central nervous system. DM1 is associated with the expansion and instability of CTG repeat in the 3chr('39') untranslated region of the myotonic dystrophy protein kinase (DMPK) gene located on chromosome 19q13.3. The aim of this study w...
متن کاملGenetic predictors and remodeling of dilated cardiomyopathy in muscular dystrophy.
BACKGROUND Dystrophin gene mutations cause 2 common muscular dystrophies, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD). Both are frequently associated with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and premature death. We hypothesized that early diagnosis and treatment of DCM in DMD/BMD patients would lead to ventricular remodeling and that specific dystrophin gene mutations would p...

A 29-year-old man was hospitalized because of heart failure causing dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). On admission, he had elevated creatinine kinase levels (hyper CKemia) (4283IUl⁻) and false enlargement of bilateral calves. By a muscular biopsy, he was diagnosed as Fukuyama-type muscular dystrophy. Although neuromuscular diseases are often related to cardiomyopathy, reports showing a relation bet...

An unquiet life. Memoirs of a physician and cardiologist. This book is of unusual interest. It is not a history of cardiology in Belfast in the last forty years, though that is touched on in some of its aspects. It is the self-revelation of the remarkable man and physician who revolutionised the practice of cardiology in Belfast, in Ulster, and ultimately the world. He may not have meant it, bu...
